ICAM was created in 1992 to provide a leadership education program which would enable those who are responsible for the leadership of institutions in the African American faith community to acquire and develop the skills that are essential for the efficient management of their institutions.  The demand for ICAM's programs has grown steadily as it has responded to the urgent need for clergy and lay leaders who can exercise their stewardship responsibilities in a manner that is both fiscally and administratively sound.  As a result, ICAM has achieved a high level of credibility and visibility, which in turn has allowed ICAM to expand its programmatic offerings and strengthen its presence in the Black faith community.  Most importantly, ICAM has been embraced by key national leaders of the Black church, who frequently turn to ICAM for training, consultation and technical assistance.

Formerly a program of the Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) in Atlanta, GA, ICAM received its 501(c)(3) educational institution in July 2004.  ICAM is now an independent tax-exempt educational organization that engages Black Clergy, laity, denominational officials, leaders of faith-based institutions, and seminarians in intensive leadership development programs.

 Dr. Martel A. Perry provided training for ICAM from 1994 to 2003 on the subjects of Church and Technology and Church Adminstration at the Howard University School of Divinity, Virginaia Union Samuel Dewitt Proctor School  of Theology, New York Theological Seminary (NYTS),  Payne Theological Seminary, Interdenominational Theological Center (ITC) and various congregations nation wide. What is more, during his tenure with ICAM, Dr. Perry provided applied training to AME and AME Zion Presiding Bishops and other denominational leaders.
